GHANAIAN sign language
GSL
This is a means for communication among deaf people in the Ghanaian community. It has its roots in American Sign language introduced in 1957 by Rev. Dr. Andrew Foster who aimed to educate deaf individuals. GSL has various signs unique to Ghanaian culture differentiating it from ASL. Ghanaian Sign Language continues to develop as a dynamic system reflecting both local culture and global influences. Its evolution underscores the resilience of the Deaf community in advocating for recognition, education, and social inclusion.
